Steve is a native Pittsburgher who is glad to be home after living several decades of his life in other interesting places.

After being converted through the high school ministry of Young Life, Steve joined Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church. After attending the University of Pittsburgh, Steve attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. While there he decided to pursue an academic career. After a ThM degree from Harvard Divinity School and a PhD from Princeton University, Steve taught ethics and theology at Elmhurst College.

A burgeoning interest in books, archives, and research led him to accept a call as library director at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He held similar positions at Princeton Theological Seminary, and Yale Divinity School. Steve continues to be interested in ethics, theology, and cultural issues.

He was ordained by Pittsburgh Presbytery in 1988 and has served several churches including two as an interim minister.

He is an avid Steeler fan as are his three grown boys. His two married daughters have been forced to root for the Eagles and Seahawks! He is an avid reader, hiker, and beach lover. Steve is married to Beth Claussen, a voice teacher who he met at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Beth is the mother of three children who all live in Pittsburgh. Between them, Beth and Steve have eight grandchildren.
