Music Ministry

With Joy and the Zeal of Faith
Our Vision of Music at Oakmont Presbyterian Church

We unite as the Oakmont Presbyterian Church and affirm that our God calls us to a dynamic ministry that speaks God’s word and embodies the divine compassion. We choose welcome and invite all to come and worship God together. We realize that the chief purpose of humankind is to glorify God. Therefore, we commit ourselves to regular worship of God with the joy and enthusiasm of our faith.

The Basis and Purpose of Worship
In response to God’s redemptive work in Jesus Christ, we glorify our Lord in word and deed. Through our corporate and personal worship we seek to praise God with the full joy and zeal of faith. Unto God be honor, glory and praise, now and ever more. Amen!

The Role of Music
Through music God enables us to hear and receive faith’s deepest truths, inspires within us our love and loyalty, and gives us a voice to offer our deepest thanks and praise. Music is also one element of our congregation’s outreach to our community and region.

Style of Music
We seek to balance traditional and contemporary Christian music as suitable to glorify God in support of Scripture readings. Generally we will utilize both traditional and contemporary Christian music in each worship service.

Choir

We would love for YOU to join us. We are always happy to have new singers join us at ANY time of the year! We can especially use a few more sopranos and altos! The choir is open to anyone – OPC members, visitors, and community members – from Grade 9 on up. All that is really needed is a willingness to learn and develop your voice and a servant’s heart to give of your time as you join in an awesome opportunity to lead God’s people.

If you have any questions about the choir or need more information, please contact Michael Frank.

The JuBELLation Ringers

The handbell program strives to connect and engage a broad range of the congregation as participants in worship. The JuBELLation Ringers, under the leadership of Roberta “Bert” Erickson, aim to maintain excellence and participate regularly in worship – generally the 3rd Sunday of the month from September through May – and at the annual Carol Walk and Jubilant Praise concerts. We utilize a 5-octave set of Schulmerich handbells and a 6-octave set of Malmark handchimes.

We currently have several vacancies and welcome all – OPC members, friends, families and visitors – to join us in the Ministry of Music. There is no need to audition – you just need some musical ability and a heart for making “a joyful noise unto the Lord.”

Prior handbell experience is helpful but not required. However, good rhythm skills and the ability to read music are a must. We invite you to use your God-given gifts and talents and join us. Not only will you bless others, but you will receive the blessings of fellowship and shared ministry. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 pm from September through May.

If you have an interest or questions, please contact Bert Erickson. I’ll be happy to arrange a beginning technique session for you!
