 DON EWING

 PARISH ASSOCIATE

My family was very involved with the Carmel Presbyterian Church from my earliest memories.  I was totally involved in the life of the church growing up through Sunday School and VBS.  I ushered, sang in the youth choir and joined with my parents at the 11AM (3rd worship of the day).

I felt Called into Ministry in my junior year at college after lots of conversations with my mentors and wrestling with God.  I was accepted at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and graduated from there with a Masters (M. Div) in '72 and a D. Min in '81.

After graduation I was Called as an Associate Pastor and served there 7 years.  I then began serving as senior pastor in several churches in Wheeling, WV and Lafayette, IN.

Lin (my wife) and I met in high school and married in college.  She is an RN and was home for the first crucial years for our three children.  She then went on to earn her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology.  She worked in research at the University of Pittsburgh in Behavioral Medicine and has a private practice.

We have three children and nine grandchildren.  Jeff (and Monica) live in Cincinnati (and are AVID Steeler fans).  Jeff is computer manager for the combined school systems (middle school) and Monica is a nurse.  James (and Karen) live in Ft. Wayne, IN where he teaches and she is a manager in a restaurant.  Julie lives in Jeannette with her three girls; the oldest will be a senior in high school this year.  Julie works in finance and accounting.

I was the senior pastor of a congregation in Lafayette, IN  - a 1,000 member congregation.  We were ‘called’ back to Pittsburgh at the conclusion of that ministry. Having taken Interim Ministry Training upon my return to the ‘burgh I have served in that Calling in about 11 churches in the PA & OH areas, including many in Pittsburgh Presbytery.  I have served within Pittsburgh Presbytery as Chair of COM, Presbytery Moderator and Chair of the Permanent Judicial Committee.  I was Chair of the Board at Three Rivers Rowing and have served on a Red Cross sub-Board for in-school reading assistance.

My focus is Jesus Christ and his mission in the world.  I am a supporter of mission, especially medical mission.  My excitement and Call to OPC revolve around working with Steve as a colleague in ministry, supporting the work of the Deacons, the calling ministry of the church and the possibilities and potential for mission ‘up street’ and ‘down town’.
