Drumming for Peace, January 15

Jim Donovan will be our speaker/motivator for Sunday School (for all ages - children, adolescents and adults) on Jan. 15^th.  He is the former drummer of the internationally acclaimed band Rusted Root, and is a facilitator for drum circles.   He is able to communicate ways to listen, work together and offer peace through drumming.  So, on the eve of Martin Luther King’s (remember his sermon "Drum Major for Peace"?) birthday we will have Jim here at OPC leading us in peaceful drumming.  This will be intergenerational and held in Friendship Hall.  All will be participating, including the little ones.  He offers a message on a couple of levels, so while the kids enjoy drumming or hitting boomwackers, he will be talking to adults as well.  Jim has been here before, and is very inspiring.  Spread the word and bring a friend!  Drum On!!!!

New for the 2011 education year, we'll be using the Feasting on the Word curriculum to explore lectionary passages in ways suitable for all participants.  Simply put, young learners will be introduced each week to the passages that the congregation will be following in worship, as well as helping them enter more deeply into the rhythm of the liturgical calendar.  Using a common Bible passage for all learners, it's easy for families to learn and live out their faith together!
